OMG! Mongolian Grill and Mango’s Food Truck once again present “OMG! I have a Job!” event to increase employment of people with developmental disabilities

Butte, MT – OMG! Mongolian Grill, 17 N Main Street in Butte, in partnership with local disability service providers will once again present “OMG! I have a job!” taking place at the Butte Civic Center parking lot on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

OMG! Mongolian Grill is excited to bring “OMG! I have a job!” to the Butte community for the third year. This year’s event will focus on increasing the employment rate of people with disabilities through several key initiatives:

  • Showcasing employable people with disabilities in a fast paced work environment;

  • NDEAM proclamation by Butte Silver Bow Chief Executive Dave Palmer

  • Available resources for employers on the many benefits of hiring employees with limited abilities;

  • Raise money to feed athletes at the 2021 Montana State Basketball Championships scheduled for Butte in the fall of 2021.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which celebrates the work contributions of Americans with a disability and tries to raise public understanding about the employment difficulties people with a disability often face.

Due to COVD-19, this year’s event will feature Mango’s Food Truck and a 1950’s themed drive-in restaurant which will allow customers to dine in their own vehicle while being served by our volunteer car hops in the Butte Civic Center parking lot.

“We will create a safe event for our volunteers and customers and adhere to all health department regulations.”, mentioned Tom Cronnelly, event co-founder. “We can raise awareness, have fun and be safe. Even though our restaurant is closed, we did not want to cancel the event. It is too important to many people in Butte.”

“This year is different and actually more challenging for disabled citizens of Butte.”, said OMG! Owner, Kristi Cronnelly. “It is more important now than ever to highlight the abilities of this workforce. Our employees with limited abilities are very dependable, hard working and create a very rewarding work place for all of us. Once they learn what is expected, they continue to grow and contribute to our success.”

OMG! Mongolian Grill opened in 2018 in uptown Butte and employs several employees with developmental disabilities. OMG! began operating Mango’s Food Truck  in 2019 – named after their mascot.

Last year, the Cronnelly’s and OMG! Mongolian Grill took over operations of the Oredigger concession stand at Montana Tech football games and hired 5 disabled employees to staff the games showcasing the abilities of their team.

“During last year’s “OMG! I have a Job” event, we had over 30 disabled employees and volunteers running the restaurant and raised nearly $800 for the Dish-ability to assist them in repairing their food truck that employs disabled members of the Butte community. This year, proceeds will go to help feed Montana athletes that attend the 2021 Special Olympics State Basketball Championships scheduled for fall 2021. We have over 1200 people to feed next year! This event will really help make certain we provide a quality meal for all”

In 2018, the Cronnelly’s created OMG! I Have a Job! By reaching out to stakeholders in the disabled community to pool resources together with a goal of getting more people with disabilities employed and supporting those organizations with the same goal. Some of previous year’s event partners included: Silver Bow Developmental Disability Counsel, Montana Independent Living Project, BSW, Inc., Family Outreach, The Farm in the Dell Foundation, Dish-ability, A.W.A.R.E, Butte Job Service, State of MT Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Butte-Silver Bow Department of Disability Services.
