OMG! Mongolian Grill once again presents “OMG! I have a Job!” event to increase employment of people with developmental disabilities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Butte, MT – OMG! Mongolian Grill, 17 N Main Street in Butte, in partnership with local disability service providers will once again present “OMG! I have a job!” taking place at OMG! Mongolian Grill on Tuesday October 15, 2019 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

OMG! Mongolian Grill is excited to bring “OMG! I have a job!” to the Butte community for the second year. This year’s event will focus on increasing the employment rate of people with disabilities through several key initiatives:

  • Job fair for local service providers and case management companies to assist in employing job coaches, respite providers and other support personnel;

  • Showcasing employable people with disabilities in a fast paced work environment;

  • Raise money to support the needs of Dish-ability as they assist with skill development of people with developmental disabilities.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which celebrates the work contributions of Americans with a disability and tries to raise public understanding about the employment difficulties people with a disability often face.

“We have learned that everyone has abilities and can contribute in the workplace.”, said OMG! Owner, Kristi Cronnelly. “Our employees with limited abilities are very dependable, hard working and create a very rewarding work place for all of us. Once they learn what is expected, they continue to grow and contribute to our success.”

OMG! Mongolian Grill opened in 2018 in uptown Butte and employs several employees with developmental disabilities.

Recently, The Cronnelly’s and OMG! Mongolian Grill took over operations of the Oredigger concession stand at Montana Tech football games and has hired an additional 5 disabled employees to staff the games.

“We reached out to our friends at Dish-abilty to help us run the concession stand. Silver Bow Developmental Disability Council (SBDDC) has provided job coaches to assist our employees at the Tech games.”, said Tom Cronnelly – co-founder of OMG. “We are grateful to Montana Tech Athletics for giving us the opportunity to showcase our hardworking team. We strongly encourage other businesses to hire people with developmental disabilities. They are simply incredible employees and help create a wholesome environment in your business.”, Cronnelly mentioned. “During last year’s “OMG! I have a Job” event, we had 45 disabled employees and volunteers running the restaurant and raised over $1300 for the Montana Association for Rehabilitation. This year, our proceeds will go to Dish-ability.”

Dish-ability is a food truck operated by SBDDC and provides work experiences for people with disabilities.

In 2018, the Cronnelly’s decided to reach out to stakeholders in the disabled community to pool resources together with a goal of getting more people with disabilities employed and supporting those organizations with the same goal. Some of last year’s event partners included: Silver Bow Developmental Disability Counsel, Montana Independent Living Project, BSW, Inc., Family Outreach, The Farm in the Dell Foundation, Dish-ability, A.W.A.R.E, Butte Job Service, State of MT Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Butte-Silver Bow Department of Disability Services.

Butte, MT – OMG! Mongolian Grill, 17 N Main Street in Butte, in partnership with local disability service providers and government agencies will present “OMG! I have a job!” taking place at OMG! Mongolian Grill on Wednesday October 24, 2018 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

OMG! Mongolian Grill is proud to bring “OMG! I have a job!” to the Butte community for the first time. This event will focus on increasing the employment rate of people with disabilities through several key initiatives:

  • Workshops for local businesses on the benefits and tax incentives available for employing people with disabilities;

  • Job fair for local service providers and case management companies to assist in employing job coaches, respite providers and other support personnel;

  • Showcasing employable people with disabilities in a fast paced work environment;

  • Raise money to support the needs of employees in their job searches and to heighten the awareness in the Butte business community.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which celebrates the work contributions of Americans with a disability and tries to raise public understanding about the employment difficulties people with a disability often face.

“80% of people with a disability do not work! While the unemployment rate in the total population is under 4%, it is over 40% for employable people with disabilities.”, said Kristi Cronnelly, co-founder of OMG! Mongolian Grill. “We want to do something tangible to assist developmentally disabled people find jobs.”, she added.

OMG! Mongolian Grill opened this spring in Uptown Butte and has employed several employees with developmental disabilities.

“The benefits of hiring people with limited abilities are enormous. They are hard working, loyal, and eager to please. Once you find a good fit, you will have a great long-term employee! In addition, there are some financial benefits that come with staffing our business with people who are in this category in the way of tax credits and other incentives”, said OMG! Co-founder, Tom Cronnelly. “Often, the employee has a job coach that helps them be successful. We saw other employers such as Tony Olson from Butte Brewing Company and the Gorman’s at McDonald’s benefiting from these loyal employees and made it part of our business plan to follow their lead. We could not be happier with our team!”

The Cronnelly’s decided to reach out to stakeholders in the disabled community to pool resources together with a goal of getting more people with disabilities employed and supporting those organizations with the same goal. Some of the event partners include: Silver Bow Developmental Disability Counsel, Montana Independent Living Project, BSW, Inc., Family Outreach, The Farm in the Dell Foundation, Dish-ability, A.W.A.R.E, Butte Job Service, State of MT Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Butte-Silver Bow Department of Disability Services.

“It was easy for us to rally behind this cause after meeting employable people with so much potential.”, Tom Cronnelly said.

Proceeds from the sales on the day of the event will be donated to assist people with disabilities gain employment by providing items such as; taxi vouchers, clothing allowances, safety equipment, etc. In addition, funds will be used to raise the awareness in the business community in Butte and the surrounding area with a goal of increasing the number employed clients of the local service providers.
